The Church, Ideally: 1 Corinthians 1:4-9

1. The ideal provision of grace
4 I give thanks to my God always for you because of the grace of God that was given you in Christ Jesus, 1 Corinthians 1:4 (ESV)

2. The ideal riches of speech and knowledge
5 that in every way you were enriched in him in all speech and all knowledge—1 Corinthians 1:5 (ESV)

1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. 1 Corinthians 12:1-3 (ESV)

3. The ideal confirmation of the gospel
6 even as the testimony about Christ was confirmed among you—1 Corinthians 1:6 (ESV)

5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 (ESV)

3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, 4 while God also bore witness by signs and wonders and various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to his will. Hebrews 2:3-4 (ESV)

4. The ideal equipping of giftedness
7 so that you are not lacking in any gift. . . 1 Corinthians 1:7 (ESV)

5. The ideal perseverance of the saints
7   . . .  as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 8 who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Corinthians 1:7-8 (ESV)

24 Now to him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you Jude 1:24 (ESV) blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,

6. The ideal faithfulness of God
9 God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. 1 Corinthians 1:9 (ESV)

6 And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6 (ESV)

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? 36 As it is written, “For your sake we are being killed all the day long; we are regarded as sheep to be slaughtered.” 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:35-39 (ESV)
